Temples

This week I was reading in 2 Chronicles 2-5 (and 1 Kings 5-8) about the temple of the Lord that King Solomon built. As I read about the temple what struck me first was the resources that it took to build and how extravagant and detailed it was. In 1 Corinthians 3:16 it says “don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s spirit lives in you?”. God created you perfectly with the purpose of being a temple of the Lord.

and the spirit of God dwells in youIf we are made to be temples its important to understand the purpose of a temple. Firstly, the temple of the Lord was a place where sacrifices/offerings were made to please God. As temples we are called to live lives of  obedience and sacrifice to God.

The temple was a place where people went to communicate with God. We ourselves are his temple and are designed to be in communication with God all the time.

The temple of the Lord was built as a place for the ark of the covenant, which carried Gods presence. We as temples are a place for the spirit of God to dwell. How incredible is it that we were created with the capacity to contain Gods presence.

In 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 it tells about when the temple of the Lord was dedicated. The first thing they did was offer sacrifices and praise the Lord. When all the musicians singers began to praise God in unison the temple of the Lord was filled with a cloud, for the Glory of the Lord had filled the house of God. When we spend time honoring and praising the Lord he will fill you with his presence and glory.

And a cloud of glory filled solomons temple

I hope you enjoyed this post and I would appreciate any comments 🙂
