Hi my name is, Scripture

ELOHIM: God’s Names

In most English versions of the bible God is generally referred to as God or Lord. In the original languages there are many different names for God. Many of these names describe some of the characteristics of God. As someone that wants to know God more naturally I want to know and understand His name.

Genesis 1:1 says, ” In the beginning Elohim created heaven and earth”.

Elohim is the first name for God in the bible and is used over 2000 times. The name Elohim is generally thought to display God as the all powerful creator and judge of the universe.

I would love know what you think 🙂

  1. The name “Elohim” holds a very sacred and special place in my heart. Looking at Hebrew grammar… this nominally plural form means “He is the Power (singular) over powers (plural)”. This is roughly to say, “God of gods”. In conjunction to this, I also love referring to God as my Heavenly Father 🙂 Though He is our Almighty God, He is also the loving Father of our spirits and we are created in His imagine. We may return to His presence and become like Him one day through the Atonement of our Saviour Jesus Christ. xxx
